Suggestion. Stop what you are doing, undo what you did, ignore the CD. Then go to Nick Morrow's github and follow the instructions there to install his driver: https://github.com/morrownr/8821au-20210708
Glad I could help. I've used one of his drivers before and his instructions are straight forward and it worked well for me. Eventually I took his advice and got a Mediatek chipset interface with an in-kernel driver. He's done a nice write-up with reviews for the next time you are looking for a usb wifi adapter: https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi
I had an RTL8812AU USB about a year or two ago. While I was able to get it working, it would somehow drop connection after 3 or 4 days (I think due to the immaturity of the drivers at that point, because I tried it recently in another system and it was working much better). I've been using an AC1200 (RTL88x2BU) USB since then, and it's worked very well all this time - other than it took trying 3 different drivers before settling on the ones from https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2bu.git to get it going.
