The Remarkable Tablet is a good device and they are offering the early folks such as myself the subscription for free. I can totally understand how people feel bait-and-switched though. I've met many people who do not want the cloud at all but the official software requires the cloud to work. Perhaps keep the device and use alternative software? Many are available and I've just tagged a first release on my own software (link: https://github.com/nicksen782/RemarkableViewer ) Remember what you bought the device for, which was likely to take notes on a somewhat open device. Your problem isn't with the device, it is with the new policy of the company.
An option is also to run remarkable with your own remarkable cloud like with this software. https://github.com/ddvk/rmfakecloud I have not personally tried it, but as I have a rm 1 & 2 (with the RM1 disconnected from the official rm cloud because it allows only one device per RM cloud account). I will fist try with my RM1 how well this works before deciding what to do with my devices.
