Smart contracts just got launched on Cardano a few days back (12/09/2021), so it's too early to say it will fail, just based on the fact that they've opted to go with Haskell programming language. To make things a little easier, there are some projects already working on how to write smartcontracts for Cardano in Rust and Python, this will attract some mid-level developers. They also recently launched a Cardano Developer Portal, where you have all essentials and documents to start writing smartcontracts.
