What do you mean it doesn’t save? Does it give you an error message? Or just disappears? Are you using the correct randomizer?
make sure you use https://github.com/pret/pokefirered as your repository.
either way it might be tough to find an answer - most people who hack gen 1 use the disassembly, not hex editing. it's easier to edit the code that way.
if you're already familiar with github, maybe consider using a decomp project like pokeemerald? since they're already on there. should be a lot easier to collaborate on than binary hacking a single ROM file

for your emulator, if you choose to play on PC, i can attest to desmume. it usually handles pokemon ROMs well enough. for your ROM, you will have to find that on your own. helping people find ROMs is against the rules of this subreddit.
