AI today is extremely good— superhuman, basically— at solving narrow tasks like playing Go, or doing chemistry, or finding patterns in data. When it comes to general reasoning and inference, the most advanced publicly known AI is called GPT-3, and it's not as good as a human, but probably better than most animals. It has deep and detailed knowledge about the world which it has effectively learned by "reading" large chunks of the internet, and from patterns in all that knowledge, it can make meaningful deductions about novel situations, or creatively invent new scenarios which are realistic and more or less logically consistent, or even do things like write code by itself. AI can also be creative in ways that are comparable or superior to human beings— for example, here's an AI which can invent new songs from scratch in any style, including lyrics.
