you're accessing their servers when you use 2fa which costs money so they're actually providing a service on addition to the software and since the code is still there it doesn't make it proprietary software. The desktop client id 100% free and open source licensed under the GPLv3 which is evidenced by the only licensing info on the Github repository being one pointing to that and if it turn out to be relicensed without informing the end user that would be fraud, especially when money is changing hands in such a trackable way (to be completely certain i downloaded my own "premium license" to find a rather short json file. the access credentials for their servers no doubt. whereas the GPl is a legally binding document
