Audacity fork without the nasty policy change

There was a telemetry PR back in May that was rejected (https://github.com/audacity/audacity/pull/835) and none of the recent diagnostics commits appear to be opt-in or automatically sending telemetry (to me). Am I right in thinking that opt-out telemetry didn't get into master or a release branch yet?

I thought so, but it kind of looks like significantly more? At the very least, Tenacity has already been effectively killed by a 4chan raid intended to promote Sneedacity, so both the fragmentation and the maintainer meltdowns have already begun.

Not saying this example is done well or not done well, because that's very much a subjective opinion in a clearly charged topic, but an example of a popular OSS with telemetry is VS Code and the community-driven distros without telemetry VS Codium.

That seems pretty unfortunate. For example, I remember Roundcube being pretty neat, but surely it handles enough user data to require COPPA compliance... so now that can't be GPL'd anymore?
