I haven't done this personally, but there's a a project called "Teach Yourself Computer Science" that is geared towards self-taught devs seeking to improve their CS fundamentals. The authors of the project also talk about why self-taught devs might want to learn about different topics. Might be worth checking out.
Systems design is something I'm behind in - because of my career choices. I work on low-level Linux kernel drivers, have for 5+ years... I've never dealt with high-reliability distributed systems before. I intend to study this: https://github.com/donnemartin/system-design-primer
