Eg. for Rust you can use https://github.com/RustSec/cargo-audit to automatically find security advisories for all your dependencies.
This doesn't fix the update problem, but if you install this: https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher, your appimages will integrate with the system and will show up in the "start menu" of whatever desktop environment you use.
It's a fairly simple check atm. Here's what it looks like in my code: https://github.com/tegapp/teg/blob/develop/crates/server/src/server_query.rs#L21
Talking about "security vulnerabilities" is so hypocritiсal while still there is no tool for your system to control per app traffic. I mean something like this or this (these examples are not ready for production and probably will never be). I didn't ask anybody for care, OK? My personal security shouldn't be anybody's concern. I could just use Windows or Mac if I wanted big brother care about me and decide for me when and what to do.
Torvalds absolutely does have experience in making user space software. In fact, I've already read a significant chunk of his gripes with shared libraries following the development of Subsurface (that he started because there was no good FLOSS dive log software before).
