What I find difficult at the moment - is to get a clear understanding about standard notes. The setup seems cumbersome to me - with a lot of "apps" (I think you call it) that add functionality / editors. It gives me the impression of a whole layer of complexity that I could live without - and for sure makes it complex to understand what I would be getting into. I like the approach from notion.se in that regard way more (it's way more intuitive to start with). crypt.ee seems less intuitive in the user interface than standard notes, and the initial loading seems slower (but I read that if your standard notes database grows - slowness might become an issue too).
As for being in the US, here are our thoughts on that. You can self-host your data with a server in the EU if you'd like. 🙂
