I went the opposite way and used opnsense as my router for years before switching to a UDM and then a UDMP. Opnsense (and pfsense) is extremely configurable but really a UDM gets you 90% of the configurability but is waaaaaay faster to work with. Plus, now that you can get stuff on Github to add what the UDM was missing I think the UDM plus that open source stuff gets you all the way there.
Consider the opnsense fork rather than pfsense.
