dash-to-panel
An icon taskbar for the Gnome Shell. This extension moves the dash into the gnome main panel so that the application launchers and system tray are combined into a single panel, similar to that found in KDE Plasma and Windows 7+. A separate dock is no longer needed for easy access to running and favorited applications. (by philippun1)

vertical-overview
Gnome has had vertically stacked workspaces for a long time. The Gnome 40 update unfortunately made the switch to a horizontal layout. A choice that many Gnome users disagree with. This extension completely replaces the new Gnome overview with something that resembles the old style.

This really helped me
Dash to panel is being worked on, the discussion is here.
It's typically installed by default on other distributions running GNOME (e.g., Fedora, Ubuntu) because I believe they package it as a dependency for GNOME Shell. gnome-shell on Archlinux only requires libibus as a dependency. There was a short period of time when Ibus was a dependency for gnome-shell 3.36.0-2, but that was changed shortly after for gnome-shell 3.36.0-3 and it's been that way since.

I had the same issue, but have switched to using Sound Input & Output Device Chooser seems to be working fine.
