You can hack your 3DS, install TWiLightMenu, and then grab a HGSS ROM and play it that way so you don't need to purchase it. Since you didn't list a Gen 5 game, that homebrew and a Gen 5 ROM will also allow you to PokeTransfer your ribbon master up to Gen 5 (though I don't think you can get Bank to communicate with your Gen 5 ROM, you'll have to transfer up to Gen 6 by save editing). With a hacked 3DS, you can use a homebrew like Checkpoint to backup all of your DS/3DS saves and make transferring between generations or trading within generations less tedious, since you can save edit to move your ribbon master around or backup your ribbon master in case you make a mistake. My ribbon master is currently in Gen 4, but I have backups of it going back to when I first hatched it in Gen 3.
