The CentOS survey

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/CentOS

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • CentOS Stream is part of the critical path to developing RHEL. CS9 is part of the RHEL9 roadmap, CS10 will be part of the RHEL10 roadmap, and so on for the foreseeable future. The CS9 sources are already being populated here.

  • centos2ol

Script and documentation to switch CentOS/Rocky Linux to Oracle Linux

  • They are already up to questionable behavior. The centos2ol script replaces EPEL with an Oracle version of EPEL that is not identical. Many packages are missing or older, and no one knows if the other packages have been modified. There is no disclosure of this change and no way to opt out without modifying the script yourself or reversing it after the fact.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • zfs

    OpenZFS on Linux and FreeBSD

  • Results may vary depending on third party hardware/software vendor support, but considering people are already using CS I think it's fair to say it's already usable. The biggest pain point so far has been third party kmod packages that are using kernel interfaces that are not part of the kABI stable list. Those kmods routinely have issues with new minor releases, so it makes sense that they would have issues with getting new minor release kernels early. Some projects like ZFS are hoping to support both RHEL and CS, because CS will help them be ready for each next RHEL minor release.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
