I use hrm with canary layout, which puts the most used keys on the home row, so that means that I tap on the hrm keys the most. And I have pretty much 0 mistakes.
From what I understand this is enabled by default in Miryoku? Looking at this file: https://github.com/manna-harbour/miryoku_qmk/blob/miryoku/users/manna-harbour_miryoku/config.h
Shift was annoying to me, so I moved it to a thumb key. I also have cut copy paste on a layer too since I tend to rush when pressing it. Layers need to be instant for me too. Callum feels like too much work, and this is a happy medium. Here's a pic of my layout https://github.com/dlip/nixconfig/blob/master/keymaps/README.md

Check out https://zmk.dev/docs/config/behaviors#sticky-key for sticky keys with quick release and sticky layers. I am using them on the thumbs in the colemak layer in https://github.com/ClickyFingerz/zmk-config-corne-view/blob/main/config/corne.keymap if you'd like to see some examples.
I had trouble with HMR as well at the beginning, but since switching to sunaku's fork/PR I've almost eliminated all the issues I had with it. And worth mentioning is urob's timeless HMR config from which I think the fork/PR takes some of its inspiration.
