A long-time Windows power user and game developer is looking for a switch to Linux.

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/FindMeADistro

Our great sponsors
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • distrobox

Use any linux distribution inside your terminal. Enable both backward and forward compatibility with software and freedom to use whatever distribution you’re more comfortable with. Mirror available at: https://gitlab.com/89luca89/distrobox

  • Distrobox (you can use any container images from Docker Hub, quay.io etc)

  • waydroid

Waydroid uses a container-based approach to boot a full Android system on a regular GNU/Linux system like Ubuntu.

  • And although I don't include it in the list above, I still want to mention blendOS: A kinda immutable Arch core (rolling-ish) and/but all the user stuff takes place in the containers (Arch, Ubuntu etc + Android via Waydroid), including the desktop environments themselves. So on paper it should mean a cutting edge core (minimal and automatically set up, so less chances of breakages) while offering a choice on different rates of cutting-edge-ness of all the other, user stuff. If you want to give it a try wait for the v3 that should come out soon.

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • podman-desktop-companion

    Podman desktop companion

  • Podman Desktop Companion (cross-platform, supports Docker too)

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
