The AUR can be accessed through a distrobox from any supported distro. The overhead is minimal as well. So unless you need to install the packages natively for some reason, it's not necessarily required to run Arch on your base system to access the AUR.
paru is an AUR Helper, which also will perform pacman actions (install, upgrade, removal, etc)
