Is there a sd client or way to have the cpu take over when the gpu is out of memory?

The memory spike at the end is the result being run through the VAE. Get the MultiDiffusion extension, and enable Tiled VAE. This breaks that final step into smaller pieces, set with Encoder Tile Size. It slows things down a little, not as much as --lowvram though, and far less than switching to CPU would. I have a lot of VRAM as is, but it allowed me to go from a max txt2img resolution of 2816x2816, with --lowvram, to at least 6144x6144 without --lowvram. I haven't even tested bigger as gens that size are totally incoherent anyway.
