Because I think those things are already separated and working with safetensors (and ckpt, but why would anyone use that...) in comfyui https://github.com/comfyanonymous/ComfyUI Have you seen the hundreds of community models that are in safetensors/ckpt? That alone is a pretty compelling argument to support them, besides the most popular UI (auto1111) using them.
