ChatGPT Plus vs API debate, how good are the available local chat clients? Does OpenAI's native client do some added magic over the API?

    I am currently subscribed to ChatGPT Plus and use it primarily for coding, engineering and scientific kind of stuff. However, I don't use it very regularly, and as a result I wonder whether it'd be cheaper for me to pay for the API instead and use it some local client, for example this:
