Yes and no; mostly no. Like everyone else, I'm bound to the terms of the Apache 2 license under which NetBox is published. Even if I wanted to make my own fork, I would be obligated to follow its terms: including attribution, annotating all modified files, etc.

Some technical reasons to remove commit history were funny. Someone already pointed to a project like https://github.com/FRRouting/frr, which was able to keep quagga's commits since ~2002.
