Eight months ago, I saw this tweet from Steve Purcell, the maintainer of the famous purcell's emacs.d config. Seeing that he was left org-mode for a new tool, discouraged me from using Emacs and building my own config. It also encouraged me to try Logseq, which is one of the most popular PKM tools alongside Obsidian.
When some days ago I decided to use org-mode again, I didn't use Doom Emacs, and it was the best decision that I've made. Instead, I used Prelude, which is a very simple and powerful Emacs config, and it's much less opinionated than Doom Emacs and Spacemacs. Then I disabled the Prelude theme, and combined it with Nano-Emacs. Now I have a very simple Emacs config, which provides me with some of the best tools, and also a very beautiful and elegant theme. I can change everything I want very easily, customized it to my needs.

For flashcards there are several packages available for Emacs including org-drill, org-fc and pamparam. There is also orgtre/anki-editor which one can use to create cards for Anki via its AnkiConnect plugin. This is what I use as having Anki on mobile is important for me to ensure I can always do my reviews.
