Yup these are the only options, really. I'm going to use the camera for mine and AI on the Edge (https://github.com/jomjol/AI-on-the-edge-device) since my gas meter isn't supported for RTLAMR.

If you have a meter that reports gas usage via wireless you can use a software defined radio to pull in all the data using rtlamr2mqtt addon https://github.com/allangood/rtlamr2mqtt
