Hex-editing and successfully flashing a modified 1.5.2 firmware update onto a Hydrasynth Desktop has been possible in the past as can be seen on the photo over at the unpacker's repository on github: https://github.com/patois/A5Pack. Yet, no further experiments have been conducted 'cause I'm afraid of ending up with a brick - I do love my Hydrasynth after all!.
They refused to provide the programmer of Edisyn with a full MIDI spec to integrate into a free programmer, and haven't provided us with a programmer interface. I know they read this sub, and this should put them on notice. I bought the damn thing, if I have to figure out how it works on my own then your control be damned.
It's also possible to set up a little software-only debug environent based on an emulator like QEMU (https://www.qemu.org/) using gdb etc. but I haven't personally taken it far from there - yet? :)
