To give a few examples, the current version of neovim] in ubuntu repos is 0.7.2. There has been one major release and couple minor releases since then. Not as bad as the Debian repos, but still very much out of date.

Another one would be libfmt which is only one minor version behind but that version was released in August. I've had situations where I needed a new version of libfmt due to an important bugfix and ended up compiling and installing it myself because that version wasn't to be added for over half a year.
