There's been some common ground everyone can find in adding Container Queries or what not. The https://webcompat.com group find a good yearly set of goals that everyone can agree to. But they are almost never new things for users. They're almost always new CSS tricks or gizmos. Because only one browser seems to support users doing new things.
I think there's definitely a lot of security concerns worth worrying about, but we have to have some way to let users trust & accept some web systems as privileged, give them some kind of enhanced capabilities. Right now native apps have huge leeway to do whatever, and it feels like there's only one browser out there that cares in any way about trying to find some way for webapps to also have some more mild but somewhat capable options.
