  • I haven't touched it in a while, and it may have suffered some bit-rot, but project cubicle was a DSL for making really nice spreadsheets -- with formulas and formatting, headers, graphics, nested grouping and summaries and really everything -- from tabular data: an expressive and flexible layer atop xlsxwriter. Because of its narrow focus on layout, formatting, and boilerplate, it could never be "general purpose" and there was no temptation to move in that direction.
