Yes, it does stop them. Seeing pull requests like this one or this one (also hello to your comment from 2018) and this one screeches contributions to a halt since the maintainers do not try to look into merging contributions. Especially with seemingly hostile comments from the first example, doesn't look like they like if people try to poke them for any updates.
That's why focusing on LightDM-KDE would have been the best course of action. Annoying bits developed somewhere else and the Plasma integration bits in-house.
just found this Qt5 greeter through wikipedia https://github.com/rezso/lightdm-qt5-greeter but I don't plan on testing it.
