Just recommended it in another thread, I think you'll like Matrix. It kinda tries to solve this problem through what they call bridges -- services that allow you to communicate through different platforms in a single place.
For a long time, I have been using Ferdium for having all communicators in one place. Ferdium (forked from Ferdi, but there is also Rambox and few more apps) is not a smart solution. Basically, it's Electron based frames with common notification framework.
