  • Now, this, of course, again allows firefox to send cross-origin referers when just the base domains match which is the default in Firefox's default/default-release profiles if I am not wrong. In order to have the same effect as the pref used by Arkenfox's user.js, Arkenfox's wiki suggests using the Smart Referer add-on in strict mode and whitelists disabled.

  • Now the problem is that it hasn't been updated since 3 years(last updated on Dec 18, 2019 according to AMO). Last commit on its gitlab repository was done on Sept 15, 2020. Now I am no developer, but I am sure that there has been quite a few changes in Firefox and some heavily discussed changes like MV3 and others are making its way to the browser as well. The add-on seems to have been abandoned by the developer judging by the activity in the repository.

  • On the github issue tracker of Arkenfox user.js, there's an open issue in which one of the comments seem to claim that there's this new add-on called "Referer Modifier" which is capable of doing the same thing but to me it seems to be WIP from the looks of the github repository. I would be glad if any of you who has tried this add-on can tell me more about it and whether it is capable enough, as it is, to replace Smart Referer add-on. Apart from this, if you know about any other alternatives to Smart Referer add-on, please let me know about it in the comments. I don't have a GitHub or GitLab account to open an issue myself or join the ongoing discussions regarding the same issue which is why I thought about posting here on this subreddit.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
