My favourite last month was the introduction of imara-diff as driver for all line-diff operations. This sped up statistics retrieval of ein tool estimate-hours -plf substantially by a factor of two. A close second though is the availability of the max-pure release target which can build with just a Rust compiler and a libc, with no additional C dependencies involved. It's worth noting that some core algorithms like ZLIB and SHA1 aren't quite as fast as their respective C counterparts, yet.
There's an up-and-coming translation of libdeflate to Rust, which is the fastest DEFLATE implementation around - with the drawback that it doesn't support streaming decompression, it just decompresses everything into a buffer in one go.
