  • Alice

Giving ChatGPT access to a real terminal (by greshake)

  • However, it feels like it's only a matter of time before someone does that. For example, we already know that ChatGPT is (somewhat) good at creating code and that if it is given compilation errors, is able (sometimes) to fix the code it created. It's an entirely reasonable thought that someone may think to make this an automatic process; to make a tool that allow the AI to take actions in an IDE and to see the results of its actions. In fact, a project named "Alice" has already done something like this for the Linux terminal. It has a number of safeguards (it is explicitly designed to involve a human in the loop and always asks before sending the data back to ChatGPT) but it exists.
