In my experience if you just want to do local deployments just use kustomize, it's easier to set up and the things you need configure can specifically addressed. With helm the temptation is always there to make everything variable but then your templates into something like this, where sure it's nice that you can change everything with different variables, but do you really need that? And is it really worth the higher cost of understanding all that templating? So if you want to publish your application for the whole world to use, then a helm chart makes sense, but for local stuff kustomize makes more sense.

Project mention: How To Access Real Client IP Addresses With Proxy Protocol | reddit.com/r/kubernetes | 2022-09-02
On one hand, this is about inlets, a product I wrote to help developers, self-hosters and enterprises to connect containers to the cloud. On the other hand, I hope you'll learn as much as I did about Proxy Protocol and how hard it is to configure for Traefik behind K3s.

Project mention: Metadata Store - Which one to Choose ? OpenMetadata vs Datahub ? | reddit.com/r/dataengineering | 2022-11-17
If I remember correctly DataHub requires a MySQL DB, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and potentially a Neo4j instance. So, a lot of stuff. There are nice helm chart here: one with the application itself and one with the dependencies. But,if you want it in production at scale, you might consider reviewing the dependencies and deploy them separately.

Find a good helm chart. There are lots and lots of mosquitto helm charts, but several didn't handle configuration the way I wanted. I ended up using https://github.com/t3n/helm-charts/tree/master/mosquitto

Project mention: Start date pushed back multiple times at new contract gig. Looking to see what else is out there. | reddit.com/r/devopsjobs | 2022-06-22
I'm looking for a company that is willing to judge me based off of past experience and previous projects I've already completed. So ideally no LeetCode, and no more take homes unless you want me to post them publicly. Ideally looking to come in at $160K+ for mid level or $200K+ for senior, depending on how much of a match there is between me and the position, and a sign-on bonus would be incredible. Hopefully I have enough of a reputation at this point where you've seen my posts and comments in /r/devops and already know what I'm capable of, but if not, I'm happy to chat about previous projects in-depth and go over what I've worked on. A code review as part of the interview process would be absolutely stellar. This is what I've been working on recently as well as my "homelab" if you re looking for some specifics. DM or chat with your work email for an official resume
