I do think I know the problem, I followed THIS to make it look nicer. But it has not been updated in a bit so things may be broken.

I am a noob to awesome wm, and have tried several times to get the widgets from https://github.com/streetturtle/awesome-wm-widgets to work. I am not understanding the directions, and whenever I try it always throws me errors that i cannot figure out. Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to setup these up?

awesome-dotfiles
Dotfiles for awesome people using the awesomewm linux environment (by WillPower3309)
Project mention: Trying to replicate the set up linked in the comment but getting this result. The screen size seems wrong, can't type in the terminal and the screen highlighted on the bar doesn't always match the screen I'm on. Are these logs I can check or anyone who might know what's wrong here? | /r/awesomewm | 2022-07-17Dotfiles here: https://github.com/WillPower3309/awesome-dotfiles

If you want a one best solution, i believe that’s where you use flakes because it can load configurations based on the hostname. Otherwise, it would have to be done manually. I personally just put all my stuff in a github repository and if i ever put it somewhere new, i just clone the repo and run my install script. It’s not a perfect solution but it’s really all i need. I don’t think there is a best solution but there is a pretty good example in here https://github.com/JavaCafe01/frostedflakes I believe this may be similar to what you are looking for

Project mention: It's taken me all day, but I've just got my widgets changing colour with load, battery, wifi and CPU temp and I'm having an embarrassing amount of fun | /r/awesomewm | 2023-05-07
It's from vicious widgets.

Project mention: Poor performance animation (no compositor, with very questionable monkey patch of awful.layout) | /r/awesomewm | 2022-10-26
I wrote a wrapper for rubato to provide a similar API to replace c:geometry(geo).

I don't know if https://github.com/Elv13/collision would provide certain useful features (like window moving) as I'm a little confused by its readme, maybe it only provides visual indication for those features, or maybe it does provide some of the functionality you're looking for?

Project mention: Notifications are too low, cannot seem to figure out what is causing it | /r/awesomewm | 2023-04-18
This "notification" from the screenshot looks very similar to the pop-up produced by this network widget https://github.com/pltanton/net_widgets. With a quick check in you rc file, I can confirm you indeed use a wifi widget, and the code is also very similar to what the readme says.

u/BaigGam3rss I still have some work to do to make my own widgets but you probably start with the documentation [1][2]. And then look at some other projects that use Awesome API to build widgets (ex: [3][4][5][6][7]).

Project mention: Not all .desktop files are being put in the "main menu" | /r/awesomewm | 2022-09-05
Default awesome config doesn't parse .desktop files at all. Some deb based distributions modified it to use awesome-freedesktop but it's surely not an only way to get the application menu (there are stand alone apps like rofi). So first of all you should mention which way to create the menu are you using.
