What engine do you folks code in?
I've started working on a project in Zig, using zig-ecs. I don't really have a frontend yet, I just print to the terminal for debugging, and eventually I'll probably use SDL.

Some high-level noob questions
Familiar with C#? My friend, may I point you towards a rendering library called SadConsole and a framework specifically for creating RogueLikes called GoRogue. They are lacking in tutorials (SadConsole recently had a major version change, and GoRogue is soon to follow suit), but they've got a discord community where people are really helpful.

Theme is archived, but I wanna mention for future developers, that best way to use GoRogue with Unity is to import source code of GoRogue itself from this this folder, and dependencies DLLs from corresponding Release / 'MinimalDependencies'-archive, from here

Trying to learn C# and want to make a roguelike
If you just want to quickly get into making a game, I recommend SadConsole with GoRogue along with the integration library + starter template.
