yt-dlp VS jellyfin-youtube-metadata-plugin

On Win10, I download the .exe from the latest release here: https://github.com/ytdl-patched/yt-dlp/releases/tag/2023.03.03.19419

For those who still have this issue and are on Windows and need a fix right now just go and download the "yt-dlp.exe" from here: https://github.com/ytdl-patched/yt-dlp/releases/tag/2023.03.01.19419

The issue is already fixed in the code so if you compile from the code your issue will be fixed. Personally though I just downloaded the daily build and that seemed to fix the issue https://github.com/ytdl-patched/yt-dlp

Temporarily, you could also install the unofficial daily build of yt-dlp from here.

Get the latest unofficial build from here. 🙂

It seems Youtube did change something internally so the old yt-dlp exe file (which the Cinema mode uses) no longer works. Found a fix: Go here to download the latest yt-dlp exe file: https://github.com/ytdl-patched/yt-dlp/releases/tag/2023.02.17.334. Then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Beat Saber\Libs on your PC and replace the old yt-dlp.exe file with the new one you just downloaded. And it should fix Cinema mod. I just tried and it works for me now!

So, if you want this fix "as an .exe", just download the unofficial daily build from here, or compile yourself.

Have you tried the latest daily release? https://github.com/ytdl-patched/yt-dlp/releases I had problems with throttling too, but switching to the daily release fixed it for me, you get the most recent fixes, but it might be not as stable, the original yt-dlp was updated a month ago

Until the next update of yt-dlp, you could try with the unofficial daily build, made by @Lesmiscore: https://github.com/ytdl-patched/yt-dlp.

As a less sophisticated alternative there's a metadata plugin for jellyfin https://github.com/ankenyr/jellyfin-youtube-metadata-plugin

You probably want Tube Archivist. The only problem is that it’s naming convention doesn’t work with the Jellyfin YouTube Metadata Plugin.

For future videos you download with yt-dlp you can try using the Jellyfin YouTube Metadata Plugin. Jellyfin grabs the exact images and descriptions from YouTube.

As for the plugin I’ve gotten it to work in Docker but could never get it to work for Jellyfin MacOS because it wouldn’t recognize my already installed yt-dlp. Did you try the yt-dlp install command on the plugin’s GitHub page?

It has always saddened me that Jellyfin can't get metadata for YouTube videos... I mean I'm aware of ankenyr's plugin, but I've never managed to make it work :/

For some reason I am unable to get them to work together (I’m using the file output as “%(id)s”) which to my understanding should work with the Metadata scraper as seen here but when I sync the content on my server it just uses the title of the folder (the YouTubers name) and doesn’t populate any metadata.

Theres an open issue on the Youtube Metadata plugin to try and get it to support TubeArchivists naming scheme (which will never change), but there has been no progress on it: https://github.com/ankenyr/jellyfin-youtube-metadata-plugin/issues/40
