don't have the time to install visual studio; what's another compiler/dev environment i can use?
Tcc is brutally fast. I use it on Linux and runs my project compiling on the fly in 100ms (on a 11 years old core i3 laptop with magnetic HDD), so i can use C as a scripting language.

Are there open-source standard cell libraries that are commercial process-compatible?
However, for whatever reason the "official" repo has many problems when interacting with both open-source and commercial tools. EFabless hosts a patched and maintained version of the PDK here which is actually the recommended starting point. There are still some quirks which aren't resolved because it requires data from the manufacturer and I guess that's a slow process.
