Turns out the situation isn't as dire as I thought, perhaps because the Haskell ecosystem has matured a little in recent years in terms of backwards compatibility (Cabal 3 being a major, but vital, exception): https://github.com/wxHaskell/wxHaskell/pull/40

How is it going with desktop apps nowadays? What happened to wxHaskell?
I was looking for it yesterday and think I saw your issue on source forge, but it looks like they moved their repo to GitHub https://github.com/wxHaskell/wxHaskell , it seems to be almost building except for some minor changes needed .

Can I build a Flutter clone in Haskell?
Finally, in the game development world, the best open source GUI available is called "Dear ImGui", it can run in any SDL/OpenGL program. I just checked and it seems there are nice Haskell bindings: https://github.com/haskell-game/dear-imgui.hs
