Is there any direct way of finding the link to the m3u8 / mpd files for any videos (no matter the source)?
I've been using this for quite a while now. Translate the page and you can understand its contents. It needs python to run. It also need tampermonkey. For detecting m3u8, it uses "CommonHlsDownloader 脚本" script installed using tampermonkey. I just start the process and stop it the moment it starts downloading (just to get m3u8 link) and I just use yt-dlp to download the whole thing. You'll get the hang of it the more you use it.

FYI this started out as a vulnerability in yt-dlp [1]. Later it was found to impact many other languages [2]. Rust, along with other languages, also considered it a vulnerability to fix, while some other languages only updated the documentation or considered it as wontfix.

SponsorBlock – skip sponsor segments on YouTube
Using yt-dlp to download video files is great too because it has support for sponsorblock[1] which will then automatically remove the segments you choose from the file.

The yt-dlp project has an issue to add it

Newpipe/yt-dlp stops working
It is resolved by updating yt-dlp [0]. More generally, for those who lament that the end is nigh, I don't think YouTube can actually do anything about such tools as long as they are serving video in one format or another. DRM is always broken, given enough time.

They're apparently going hard this time, no known way to play anything anymore.
Playing on the website without an account still works.
