Ask HN: Why is ChatGPT using 100% of my CPU?
I've noticed this too. 100% CPU usage, laptop temperature skyrockets and fans kick on whenever I'm on the ChatGPT website.
I believe I've found a solution. I'm on Linux Mint, I'm using Firefox. If I export chatGPT to a web app using Linux Mint's webapp-manager, the problem goes away. What's strange here is that this should be using same profile and version of Firefox as my actual browser. Maybe it's an extension causing an issue, but I only have ublock origin, tampermonkey, firefox translation which is an official addon, and multi-account container which is also an official addon.

Using extra Firefox profiles to make my life better
Surprised no one mentioned Linux Mint's Webapp Manager:
https://github.com/linuxmint/webapp-manager
Should be in more distros. Allows some basic tweaking of profiles and supports more than just Firefox (unfortunately not qutebrowser, though).

He doesn't care that Flatpak solved this problem 3 years ago or that Discord doesn't manage Arch repos...

Bucket: A card game
This program, as it runs in a browser tab, doesn't run exclusively on linux. Linux users, however, can play the game using Web App
- Any FOSS Site-specific browser?

Is there a way to make PWAs to display their separate icon in the GNOME dock?
This is something that I really struggled with some time ago, but I finally managed to solve. Try out WebApp Manager, it's a fork of ICE, a previous version which also worked. It takes care of everything, even the WM_CLASS attribute needed to associate different windows of each PWA together but separated from the browser window. This completely changed the way I use my PC, nowadays I have more PWAs opened that desktop programs.

Any method to install websites as apps like in chromium based browsers?
Webapps are basically just shortcuts that launch the browser with no navigation bar - so it's possible to create them with something like https://github.com/linuxmint/webapp-manager

Ask HN: What apps have you created for your own use?
Being a co-founder, I often have to wear lots of different hats and needed a way to better manage multiple identities in my browser. I tried Chrome profiles and Firefox containers, but both felt messy. Instead, I wrote my own browser called Wavebox. It started as an Electron app but after quickly finding all the limitations, dropped Electron and built directly on top of Chromium. We're now approaching Wavebox's 7th birthday and going from strength to strength!

Feature suggestion: Add option to isolate information/cookies between sessions
Failing that have a look at https://wavebox.io/ which is a Chromium-based web browser built to support multi account logins.

Does BW have the ability to simulate the "Enter" command?
Here is a discussion of an unrelated issue being brought up for LastPass, but you can see that allowed for the Enter key to be passed: https://github.com/wavebox/waveboxapp/issues/728

Ditching Notion and ClickUp and all other All in One Tools
Just wanted to share my recent shift from using all-in-one productivity tools like Notion or ClickUp to using WaveBox, a productivity-focused browser. I am frustrating by all in one tools that suck. Or look like crap. Or don't work the way I would expect.

Show HN: Building Browser Extensions Using FileSystem APIs (and ChatGPT)
Hi HN! Wavebox Flow (https://flow.wavebox.io) is an open-source (https://github.com/wavebox/wavebox-flow) browser extension builder that runs directly in your browser. We want to help make building your first extension, or prototyping that idea that's been sat on your desk as simple as possible. There's sometimes this bit of "where I do I start" syndrome, where you're not sure what to start with, or even where to look. Given the advancements of the HTML5 FileSystem APIs, it's now possible to store your extension files directly on disk and edit them with the amazing Monaco editor. If you're prototyping and start to feel that your idea is growing legs, there's nothing stopping you opening the extension in your favourite editor and continuing from there - the output is just standard a WebExtension.
We've been using Flow internally for a few months to create helper extensions, such as one that helps us to link support tickets to our internal admin system and another that helps us with the GitHub approval flow. Both in record time and with minimal effort. When we realised how much of useful tool it is, we felt that we could couldn't keep it proprietary and the best thing to do, would be to open-source it and make sure compatibility is great with as many browsers as possible.
The extensions that you create are compatible with any Chromium browser and also Firefox. If you're using the Wavebox browser, we've added some additional tooling so you can skip some of the manual extension installation and reloading steps, but Wavebox Flow is fully featured in any browser. And of course, what product wouldn't be complete these days without an integrated ChatGPT to help with coding and catching errors.
This is just the start, we open-sourced the initial version but are looking to develop Flow further. We'd love to hear about any feedback that you have and how we can make Wavebox Flow better. You can check us out at https://wavebox.io/ and https://github.com/wavebox/wavebox-flow/

Why do people like Arc web browser?
I don't get it either. I use wavebox, which as far as I can tell has all the same features as Arc, as well more features. It's stable, fast and built off chromium just like Arc. Seriously, if whoever is reading this is looking for something like Arc, but without the wait to get into the beta.. just get wavebox.
