Discussion Thread
I have left reddit for Voat due to years of admin mismanagement and preferential treatment for certain subreddits and users holding certain political and ideological views.
- YSK Reddit will soon eliminate third party apps by overcharging for their API and that means no escape from ads or content manipulation

Reddit may force Apollo dev and other third party clients to shut down
Oh true, I forgot about that myself. Looks like the repo is still available - https://github.com/voat/voat

đŁ Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing. Bad news for third-party apps, their announced pricing is close to Twitter's pricing, and Apollo would have to pay Reddit $20 million per year to keep running as-is.
What is the next reddit though? I tried to jump onto voat.co, but that was a POS. Mastadon isn't cutting it, and is more of a twitter alternative anyway. Maybe somebody virtualizes a bunch of PHPBB instances (one per community)? And copies all the old discussions over?

Whats the most ridiculous thing youve seen during the pandemic?
Yes. I had forgotten about the vaccine passports. I got mine from voat.co and printed it up and no one ever asked me for it except at a bar. The hospital I work for didn't ask me for it because they peeked at all employees' medical records.

Is the USA a failed society?
There used to be this site called voat.co

Is there an Open Source version of Reddit?
The old Voat site was completely open source. https://github.com/voat/voat/tree/master

I want to thank this sub for everything.
I want to thank everyone on this sub, because you have been a very huge part of enlightening me with the Truth. I would visit r/conspiracy, r/The_Donald, 4chan, voat.co, Twitter, Gab, you name them. The most strong spirit of love, freedom, enlightenment, and Truth came from people on this sub, such as u/RMFN, polkadotgirl, peyotecayote, Obi Wan person, and many others who have been banned or just disappeared. If any of you are reading this, I want to say thank you.

According to the RD thread, Mlem / Memmy / Remmel

Checked out lemmy today. Itâs almost as good as Reddit. Just lacks a good App like Apollo
Don't think it's fully available yet, but there's Mlem - https://github.com/buresdv/Mlem
-
Any chance we might get an iOS version?
Mlem seems to have a tentative July 1st release date and it natively follows iOS design like Comet (for Reddit) did before it was abandoned.
-
accessible solution for lemmy?
GitHub page.

Weâre back andâŠ
Mlem: https://github.com/buresdv/Mlem is a pretty solid choice for iOS. Itâs in TestFlight but itâs functional. Not as feature complete as any Reddit app but Iâve been liking it.

The ELI5 for federated Reddit alternatives like Lemmy and kbin
Mlem is being developed for iOS, but at the moment only exists as a beta, so it may be better to just add it to your home screen via safari.

The former Top Mod of this very Subreddit, who was removed for abandoning the Sub.
Everything is still new, so development has only gotten started, but there are a few. For iOS, there's Mlem, which is currently still in TestFlight. For Android, there's Jerboa (it's available on the Play Store and F-Droid, but the alpha version on the GitHub is better, IMHO, and stable enough). No native app for kbin yet, but the mobile site actually looks nice, and so you could install it as PWA using your mobile browser of choice or via a standalone web app maker like Hermit(my preference) or Native Alpha. Some Reddit 3PA devs have also mentioned possibly looking into porting over to lemmy or kbin, but it may be some time yet, if ever.

A Fulmineous New Lemmy App
It's actually multiplatform. Thunder is also available for iOS, making it the second Lemmy app for that operating system after Mlem.
