I found the discussion in #289 and wiki-ft.vim#14 pretty interesting. I've been using wiki-ft.vim because every markdown plugin seems to break in some way (broken conceal, broken table highlighting, no injections). I know wiki-ft is not great, but at least it's consistent.

That's actually one of the main points: wiki.vim is not the plugin that does this. I'm quite sure that there are Markdown plugins that will provide this. Personally, I still use wiki-ft.vim, which provides a filetype plugin for .wiki files that has these features. But it is not really recommended, because 1) it is not really consistent with any standard, and 2) I don't really plan for long-term maintenance for that plugin.

On its own it does very little -- not much else besides making the links work. I use the author's wiki-ft.vim alongside vim-table-mode to accomplish more or less what Vimwiki used to. Wiki.vim is far more supportive of other filetype plugins than vimwiki is.
