Protect Video offload script?
If you can rsync over the .ubv files, you could use unifi-protect-remix to convert them to .mp4 files.
-
Frigate NVR 0.12.0 is out 🎉 with AI acceleration on CPUs and GPU
A feature I really liked about the Unifi Protect platform was the option to select a portion of video using a timeline slider, and it would then extract those parts and concatenate them into a downloaded file. The problem with Protect is that they use proprietary UBV files for storage and the only other way to bulk export was using a remux tool.

Any way to backup Protect offsite?
I came across this unifi-protect-remux github project that is supposed to convert UVB files to MP4 and might be useful. The setup there could be complicated.

Providing video footage to law enforcement with Unifi Protect --- What's the best way to export footage in bulk?
use this remux tool to convert the video files from .ubv to .mp4
- Does Unifi Protect support preserving a video clip?
- UniFi Protect is Trash - Ubiquiti should feel ashamed.

I migrated protect from a UDM-PRO to a UNVR and it went pretty well
One other thing I did is I whipped up a perl script that converted all the video files from the UDM-PRO drive into mp4 files on another drive, using the unifi protect remux program. It's not the best program (I'm a sysadmin, not a software developer) but it worked for me. It took just under 30 hours to do just shy of 7TB of ubv files. I went from:
- Have a UDM Pro with NVR running, can I pull the HDD and see the footage?
- Unifi Protect Videos not Playing in Plex on Apple TV

- License Plate Recognition with Home Assistant, Codeproject.ai, and Frigate NVR
- Multimillion-dollar L.A. heist was seamless, sophisticated, stealthy

Security cams
Frigate https://frigate.video/ and ZoneMinder https://zoneminder.com/ come to mind. Blue Iris https://blueirissoftware.com/ is not open source but is what I prefer to use for my PoE systems ($80/yr)

Ask HN: How have you engineered the shit out of your home's front entrance?
Engineering implies working within constraints. Most people in this realm only have to deal with the spouse acceptance factor as a limiter.
Went from openhab -> homeassistant -> Node-RED. Then sprinkle in MySensors, Frigate, and Double-Take, but not on just the entrance, go for the perimeter then defense in depth.

Frigate: Open-source network video recorder with real-time AI object detection
- https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate/discussions/7932#...
I have found my frigate+ model to be much more accurate and crazy good even at night. Will be curious how things change when it snows here more often, since I've not submitted any examples of winter at this house yet.

A PCIe Coral TPU Finally Works on Raspberry Pi 5
According to the author of that PR, they're using 10% of 1 NPU core on 3 cameras: https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate/pull/8382#issueco...
The bottleneck instead will probably be the video stream decoding speed, especially as the SoC's hardware decoder isn't being used yet.
