Items not available or installable on Orange Pi: Jpilot or Bitwarden password managers Pacman makepkg Orange Pi, at this stage, appears to be too new to be suitable for a desktop. Edit Booting from M.2 SSD Using the procedure here: https://github.com/Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-orange-pi5 This requires adding a PPA repository: https://launchpad.net/\~jjriek/+archive/ubuntu/orangepi5 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jjriek/orangepi5 sudo apt update This is how to make booting from SSD work Download Balena Etcher for ARM64 here: https://github.com/futurejones/balena-etcher-arm/releases/download/v1.7.9/balena-etcher-electron\_1.7.9+5945ab1f\_arm64.deb and install the usual way with dpkg -i Then use the etcher to install the ubuntu image obtained using the Joshua Riek Launchpad PPA listed above, marking the SSD as target. Procedure below is from Reddit: –used Imager to erase the SD and flash the latest Debian Xfce image –booted up –used gparted to complete erase the SSD and create a single large ext4 partition. –used orangepi5-config > System… to boot from the SSD (=copy over the OS) –used it again to copy over the bootloader –shut down –removed the SD and turned on the system, *knowing* it would not work And it worked, just like that. Woot! Updated, made some appearance changes, and restarted it. Still going…yeah. I can only advise people to 1) erase everything before starting, and 2) try lots of times before giving up totally. Installing Bitwarden This is not required! Just add the Bitwarden extension to the browser, as usual. https://www.makeuseof.com/self-host-bitwarden-password-manager-raspberry-pi-zero/ https://stackoverflow.com/questions/72652496/how-to-restart-portainer-on-ubuntu Enabling https on Cloudflare: https://developers.cloudflare.com/ssl/edge-certificates/additional-options/always-use-https/

Which image have you used to best emulate a streaming box?
I had that issue for the longest time, but finally there is an ubuntu image incl. Chromium, which has DRM support! I am using this wonderful costum distribution by Joshua Riek with my Orange Pi 5 to stream Netflix/YouTube etc. Netflix will display some errors in the beginning or just log you out when you start a stream, but you can use this fix for it.

Loving the Orange Pi 5 so far!!
I'm running Ubuntu 22.04 via Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-orange-pi5 and aside from a few quirks now and then, it's running very smoothly, able to play 4K videos on my TV all day. I rarely see dropped frames, but I also know there's plenty of room for more video optimization as the software evolves.
- Does the OrangePI really not support official OSes? I don't want to run sus software on my network.

What is your best os for Orange pi 5 and what ? Thanks
I used the OPi5 official image just to confirm the board was working, then moved to https://github.com/Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-orange-pi5 since it's being actively maintained.

Question is there a server OS Image for OrangePi 5?
Flash this to both the SD card and NVME drive https://github.com/Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-orange-pi5/releases Plug both into the device and boot. It’ll boot into either the NVME drive or SD card. It doesn’t matter, and yes the both are required to be plugged in. Fix the boot loader by running these two commands: 1. sudo dd if=/usr/share/orangepi/rkspi_loader.img of=/dev/mtdblock0 conv=notrunc 2. sync Reboot and it’ll now boot from the NVME

"Half-Public" DDNS Solution?
I've seen the cloudflare-ddns solutions on github here and here but it doesn't look like it'd work for my intended use case. Do you know any software that can be selfhosted that allows for that?

Do you use a VPS gateway for your selfhosted services?
Something like CloudFlare ddns docker container will check your external IP every minute or so and automatically update if required

I finally found a free alternative to noip for a dynamic ip address.
I hate noip. They spam my email and I have to remember to confirm my domain every month or it gets deleted. I just switched to this with cloudflare and its so much better.
