Resume Advice Thread - August 30, 2022
I wrote a bot https://github.com/deliveranceTechSolutions/the_blue_avenger so I have put out roughly 10k apps between multiple sites. Almost all serious interviews I have gotten through networking lol so hopefully I find a place to call home soon. I am not good at algorithm questions, which does hurt me for FAANG, and the tech I am focusing on is k8s/terraform/docker and more specifically RHEL9 and thinking about grinding out the RHCE if someone will hire me to script on the EL boxes. Anyways take care and if any recruiters would like to reach out, please DM me if you are internal and working directly with a hiring manager (hiring asap!). Thanks!

Should I still apply to new grad jobs even if I don't fully feel ready?
If you aren't going for what they call a "professional MSCS", which is a non-thesis project based masters, then yes I would apply as much as you can. I have this project https://github.com/deliveranceTechSolutions/the_blue_avenger that you can use.

Dev career didn't work out
I have been thinking about the CCIE route since I can leverage my python and go in that arena, but I'm discerning that tech is like a video game for me. I get sucked into the screen and when I look away at people, they are just objects for my to analyze. I guess not everyone feels this way. If you are looking for a job and it's not working out, I automated my job search with roughly 7k job apps on my linkedin, and most likely 3k+ on other platforms by hand. I'm not saying that every application was legit but that's ~10k apps I put out. Therefore, please don't think that 400 apps are enough. If you applied on company sites then it is different; however, many of the recruiting pipelines are attached to Linkedin so use my bot https://github.com/deliverancetechsolutions/the_blue_avenger If your problem is finding interviews or a job overall then this bot will help with the burden.
