Show HN: An ultra-light-weight tool to quickly test your ping
On Android, I run servers under Termux, e.g., DNS and HTTPS proxy.
Another use is checking email without using a browser or an app. I use a tiny shell script to check for new mail with openssl. It prints out the messages to the terminal as plain text. Termux has good scrolling so its easy enough to read. This allows me to keep email out of the browser and email messages off the phone, generally.

Available from F-Droid.
I believe Termux is still quite popular among some HN readers. I noticed someone submitted Termux-GUI plugin just the other day https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33011500

The Digital Typewriter and the Unnecessarily Costly Pursuit of Focus
Also: Whilst it's not the same as native Linux directly available, and the many, many limitations and frustrations of Android still apply, Termux can be installed on the BOOX (via F-Droid), and provides excellent capabilities.
Over 2,200 packages now.

How to run a ruby web server on your android device (without root).
Termux is a linux terminal for your android. It also includes a package manager using which you can install many packages including ruby. The first step is to download and install termux. Do not download from play store. The play store version is pretty outdated. Get it from FDroid or github

Why is auto-fill impossible in some websites such us bank and government sites?
This is one area where I think Bitwarden could really benefit by copying features in KeePass. Such as autotype and magic keyboard. These features allow you to get around silly restrictions like this.

LPT: Don't bother to remember any passwords. Reseting it every time makes it more secure, and you won't be frustrated if you just expect to reset it every time.
They are available on mobile devices too -- and they're free and open source.

FBI director Chris Wray said China has “a bigger hacking program than every other major nation combined and have stolen more of our personal and corporate data than all other nations—big or small—combined.”
For the paranoid, there's always KeePass + cloud storage, which is also free. It's what I use. I tend to use KeePassXC, a cross-platform KeePass-compatible application that works on Linux, Mac, and Windows, and I use Dropbox free for my cloud storage, since it actually has a Linux client that works, no hassles, right out of the box. I use KeePassium on my iPhone, and there are plenty of Android KeePass-compatible apps out there, such as KeePassDX, which is open-source and, apparently, very nice. I USED to use KeePass2Android, which the community seems to still like, but I'd probably be using KeePassDX these days since it's fully open-source and available through F-Droid.
