Is there a way to have a full TUI desktop environment?
For telegram, you could try something like tdlib-purple along with finch. It's basically the console version of pidgin if you've used that before, and it was really quite nice when I last used it a decade ago. :)

Telegram desktop from debian stable repo is too old to use, literally, it won't let you log in. Is there any plan to update it before the next stable release?
There is also a pidgin plugin tdlib. Works for me.

Why Telegram had to follow Apple and Google when they suspended a voting app
Yep. And not only bots - 3rd-party clients are much better tolerated compared to wa/signal.
Telegram has a clean, compact 3rd-party client that just works: https://github.com/ars3niy/tdlib-purple/
Signal has arcane, bloated (multiple dependencies, requires Java), and brittle client library https://github.com/hoehermann/purple-signal (there are other semi-abandoned projects)
WA 3rd-party clients are flat-out dead: https://github.com/davidgfnet/whatsapp-purple (and bunch more, all dead, or half-dead) Plus, WA would ban people they suspect to use 3rd-party clients.

Ask HN: Best computer that can't run a modern browser
Any computer at all, just about any linux distro, boot into console mode, and then run something like this

What's the most beautifully designed TUI-app you've used?
Does a 'TUI' based window manager count? (on linux) This program let me have numerous terminal windows and do a lot of other neat tricks with the terminals. I think it was VTM https://github.com/netxs-group/vtm
- Fun terminal programs GO!
-
mprocs 0.2.2 - TUI for running multiple processes in terminal
Could be useful for fun projects like vtm.
- Vtm: Terminal multiplexer with window manager and session sharing

After years on Linux, I just discovered Vim & TMUX. They're fucking amazing.
For absolute revelation, use vtm, a whole Desktop environment for the terminal. In addition to tiling (like tmux) it supports floating window management.
What are some alternatives?
dendrite - Dendrite is a second-generation Matrix homeserver written in Go!
pytermgui - Python TUI framework with mouse support, modular widget system, customizable and rapid terminal markup language and more!
purple-signal - Pidgin/libpurple plugin for signal using libsignal-service-java (and parts of signal-cli).
tmux - tmux source code
whatsapp-purple - WhatsApp protocol implementation for libpurple (pidgin)
sixel-tmux - sixel-tmux is a fork of tmux, with just one goal: having the most reliable support of graphics
org.telegram.desktop
twin - Text mode window environment. A "retro" program for embedded or remote systems, that doubles as X11 terminal and text-mode equivalent of VNC server
wordgrinder - A word processor which gets the hell out of your way and lets you get some work done.
flameshot - Powerful yet simple to use screenshot software :desktop_computer: :camera_flash:
Turbo Vision - A modern port of Turbo Vision 2.0, the classical framework for text-based user interfaces. Now cross-platform and with Unicode support.
notcurses - blingful character graphics/TUI library. definitely not curses.
