Last.fm Turns 20
I love Last.fm!
As a small side project I made a CLI tool in Python[1] to retrieve music collages from

Take foobar2000 currently playing song and play the same song on Spotify
Use a Python module like PyLast to get the current playing song Then use a module to play that song in Spotify (like this guide shows.)

Data analysis project
I created a python script to iterate through my files, tag in genre data based on API queries via their python modules to Last FM and Spotify. You will need an API key. But the data is there, just need go out and get it. Picard works great on tagging my files, but I wanted multi genres since my player, MusicBee, can handle that. Something like that might be helpful for you. There are also analysis projects on the internet that will do graphing and things from you file data.

Smart Playlists using Non-Standard Tags
Similarly I capture genre based on Track and Artist from Last.fm using the Pylast module. This works well. I take all the genres I collect and compare it to master sheet that Pylast has, called genres-tree.yaml in the module files. If the genre is on that list then it gets added into the tag. It takes a bit of coding but it has been a fun project.

Best strategy for saving and updating Spotify track plays data?
I'm working on a project to track my music listening history. I've written some code that uses the [pylast](https://github.com/pylast/pylast) library to gather my song plays; I then search for the track features using [spotipy](https://spotipy.readthedocs.io/en/2.19.0/) library.
