The original getlantern systray works with i3 (because gtk's tray system does); are there plans to support non-dbus trays?

I am a developer, and make most of my GUIs using Fyne and Gtk. The only time I've used a web browser as an app was with WebKit, rather than Chromium, and I did it because the entire project essentially was to render a generated site, so there was no getting around it.
