A lightweight Java2D SVG rendering engine
There is a swtgraphics2d (https://github.com/jfree/swtgraphics2d) which implements the Graphics2D interface using SWT graphics primitives. Based on the page SWT doesn't quite support all features one would like to use (e.g. gradients are a painpoint). Otherwise it probably should quite well with JSVG (I'll have to do some testing to be sure though)

You are already free to establish a good GUI/web framework yourself for Java/JVM and see how successful it will become. Or you can participate in the development in existing GUI libraries, e.g. SWT: https://github.com/eclipse-platform/eclipse.platform.swt/issues
